5 things a lifestyle entrepreneur will never say (when they ‘retire’)

lifestyle entrepreneurThe online world has opened the floodgates to those of us who want to fully dictate how we spend our time, on what, with who, where and how the experience makes us feel.

Free access to social networks, communication tools and information has led to an exciting movement of business owners who value being of use in the world, with experiential living and holistic personal expression being place above an increasingly outdated model for the attainment of satisfaction in life centred around hard work and sacrifice.

What exactly is a lifestyle entrepreneur?

A lifestyle entrepreneur is one whose business is; flexible; freedom based; supports how you want to live (think: moving to the country, simple beach living or luxury living); most likely includes travel; provides a platform for you to actively contribute to that global movement you know the world needs; about enjoyment rather than expansion for expansion’s sake; about passion and happiness before profit; about personal growth above and beyond material gain…

…but not exclusive of the latter, let’s be clear, no one enjoys living in financial struggle and you can do a lot more good in the world when you’ve got money. Even Mother Teresa needed funds from somewhere to do her work.

Believe it or not, not everyone online wants a lifestyle business. For some, this level of choice and responsibility is the opposite of what they call freedom. That’s ok. The world needs variety.

One thing’s for certain.

Those who do create a successful lifestyle business all share a certain mindset.

The successful lifestyle business mindset

It takes putting how you want to experience your everyday and how you want to show up as a human being at the forefront of every life and business decision. It takes a certain mindset, one that wouldn’t, at the end of it’s journey, whisper these 5 things:

  1. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard…because work and life dance in a well blended groove that is quickly kept in check by tuning into our sense of inner satisfaction and fulfilment.
  2. I wish I’d spent more time with family and friends…because you value personal connections over fame and material growth (nothing inherently wrong with those, just done the right way)
  3. I wish I’d listened to my gut…because you have an insatiable desire for independence. You carve your own path and you honor your dreams like a lioness protecting her cub. Your dreams hold courage, this is what carries you forwards.
  4. I wish I’d travelled more…because you value experiential living over accumulating material ‘stuff’ and if you want to travel, you get out of your comfort zone and you just do it.
  5. I wish I’d been truer to myself…because it all comes down to sincere truth. In who you are. In who you want to be. In how you want to contribute. And in what it takes to get there. It’s about spiritual growth, not spiritual deficit, all whilst creating work that provides financially.

You’re a lifestyle entrepreneur or working towards this. What would you add to the above?
