Solopreneur? Release The Struggle And Summon These 3 Forms of Support First

Stressed woman at workBeing a solopreneur is busy work.

Suddenly you’re expected to not only know and be an expert in but also do all your marketing, sales, client attraction, accounting, creating and delivering content, and the rest.

It’s crazy making.

Hello burnout!

Solo-owner does not actually mean solo. Solo-owner does not equal solo-creator and deliverer. Every successful woman had her team. The simple fact is, that limited by our human existence, we have only a limited amount of time in which to gain all the knowledge, experience, expertise and, quite honestly, level of interest in, what we need to know to grow a profitable business.

What to do?

The secret of your success is to bring on support, know how to outsource and invest in yourself and your business in the most efficient way saving you time, money, energy and, frankly, your sanity. Make more money in less time, do better work with your clients and receive more satisfaction from it. It’s a win-win.

Start off with these three forms of support when creating your team (and guess what, one of them doesn’t even cost a penny!):

  1.  Find a Mastermind buddy. This is totally free. Find a peer who’s on the same journey as you are and have weekly brainstorming/accountability/problem-shooting/celebrating calls or meet-ups. You can even set up a little group of you, that’ll just require a bit more organisation to make sure you’re productive during the calls.
I have two 1:1 Mastermind buddies that I speak with weekly. One call looks like this: we each spend 30 mins on our most pressing issue. The other looks like this: we set ourselves a task to do between calls then report back and set the next. Read Napoleon Hill’s ‘Think and Grow Rich’ to learn more about this. He coined the phrase Master Mind after all.
  2. Hire a personal coach or mentor. When I’m asked “what is the ONE thing you wish you’d known when you started out in business?” – this is it. With clear direction, a sounding board for your ideas from someone who’s seen a few more than you have, sharing their expertise, with an objective eye to see the bigger picture, yet subjective because they want to celebrate your success, this is a must. I guarantee that when you work with a coach or mentor especially 1:1 you will see results in your business faster, in a bigger way and far easier way than trying to figure it all out yourself. Seriously. You can do it. Just not alone.
  3. Outsource. Bring on your first team member. Hire a VA. I’m going to start off by being controversial here. In the first couple/few years of business, depending how quickly you expand and how simple you keep things, you don’t actually need to take on a VA right away. You most definitely can grow your business without outsourcing, working juts 20-25 hours a week. It all depends on your business model and what strategies and systems you have in place. Here’s why you’ll want to outsource: By outsourcing what doesn’t lie in your zone of genius you free up a whole chunk of creativity, surplus and energy that you can use working with clients knowing that someone has your back holding fort with the day to day. Technology, for example, just isn’t my thing. I could sit and get stressed with it for hours or ask someone else to do it. Hire before you’re ready. I compare this to feeding a child. You want to pre-empt (you really want to pre-empt). Wait too long and things are out of control and way harder to bring back to a comfortable level. Same goes with your business. Don’t wait until you’re so stressed you can’t see out of the hole you got yourself into.
