The Shocking Truth: Mums Are The Unhealthiest Entrepreneurs

frau mit LaptopDo you ever find you get sick on holiday or just after, once all the festivities, organising, activities and socialising are over? With Christmas coming up are you already feeling the tension and time pressure?

Well, the truth about why this happens isn’t really all that surprising or anything you haven’t heard before, but what is shocking about it is that it’s because it means that you forgot about YOU, yourself, your body, your mind, your life, your enjoyment of it and what you’re here to do in the first place (hint: it isn’t to run yourself ragged to the ground, taking life more seriously than ‘anyone’ ever intended it to be and losing day-to-day enjoyment along the way because you’re so busy looking after everyone else and getting things done)

Just before we sold up, packed up and moved to Thailand I got a whopper of a cough to which a friend commented “It’s because you’ve already moved to Thailand in your mind, there’s nobody here looking after your body”. Ha! Keep in mind that I still got sick despite this being a *totally* (seriously, still can’t believe it) stress-free move. It was a whole load of manifesting fun for us seeing what more ease and enjoyment we could attract into our lives throughout the process. But I digress, yes, my mind was already full with a gazillion bits and pieces for us to organise, as well as running my business and being a mama.

It can look something like this:

You’re over-busy and/or stressed, you don’t have the time to get everything done (the shopping, the organising, the gifts, running your business, booking that hair appointment, loving your man – oh yes, remember to fit that in – sorting out kids’ play dates etc) so you get take-away more often than you’d like or you skip your own meals, perhaps breakfast or lunch because you know you’ll eat with the family in the evening…
So you reach for sugar, you know you’re eating more of it than you’d like and you’re worried because you know you’re going to eat even more over the holidays…
All the above creates tension in your body, your muscles are tight, perhaps you have neck or back pain, your jaw is tight, your digestion is slow so you feel bloated, gassy, suffer from indigestion, your nerves are short and you know you’re being moody and impatient (your children and partner mirror this back at you so clearly you can’t ignore it and you’re getting frustrated with your business)

You’re rundown.

Your immune system is weakened due to lack of sleep, overindulging in the wrong foods, lack of exercise, doing too much and mental exhaustion with stress, worry and a host of other negative emotions that come from wearing too many hats at once.

You get sick.

Here’s the shocking truth, the solution really is so simple:

  • create a daily routine to help you get back to basics: plan your meals ahead of time, schedule your day so you know what you’re doing when, make time for movement, delegate, make sure you get to bed on time, drink water
  • give your mind time to rest: schedule in meditation, journaling, a massage, reading, walking

Remember, you WANT to enjoy the holiday so can’t run yourself ragged day after day, month after month and expect your body not to do it’s job and throw out what doesn’t serve it when things get too much or now that it has a chance to catch up.
