Project: Food Budget (14/4/11)

projectbudget

We (I say ‘we’ but, actually, Dom doesn’t have much of a choice seeing as we live and eat together…but he’s on board, it’s all good) have decided to join in on this great Project:Food Budget in which the blogs below are also taking part. But check this out – the budget per week for those taking part in the USA is around $85 a week, give or take. That is about 400 Danish krones (about

£40)…now check out our weekly budget below!!! Life here is reeeeaaalllly expensive! Aie Caramba! Shocker. I did a little research and found out the average weekly budget for 2 people cooking at home. We buy only organic, vegetarian food because we think that buying organic is worth every penny and we don’t want to eat animals, personal choice. I do get -30% in a health food shop at the moment so will add on 30% to our receipts (a little scared about the outcome but let’s see!). A fun project to show that you can eat totally healthy on an average budget. It doesn’t have to break the bank. I will post every Thursday (as do all the other participating blogs so check them out – some fantastic recipes in there) and might include a recipe or two depending on how much time I have. Please bear in mind that I am no chef, or photographer, some of the participants on the blog roll here are, which is why I encourage you to check out their blogs. Goal: 1000 kr Actual: c.400 kr Budget = for 2 adults preparing 3 meals a day (any meals eaten out are not included in this budget as that is highly individual) *We haven’t actually calculated correctly this week as we weren’t quite sure how to begin but all we really bought this week was fresh fruit, vege and eggs. Then we used stocks we already had – quinoa, millet, rice. We also find it hard to find organic greens – the supermarkets here really don’t have much in the way of organic fruit and vege and we don’t have any farmers markets nearby as I think is the case in the US. But, we are investigating an organic delivery type thing…more info to follow. * Breakfast: I’d like to share with you a power-breakfast we had this week: – boil eggs (as many as you want to eat – we had 2 each) – blend up 3 big mushrooms, big Tsp tahini, Tsp coconut oil, Chia seeds, splash of water – top the eggs with the above ‘paste’, sprinkle puy lentil sprouts over it, add pepper, herbs to taste – Voila, yummy power packed nutritious breakfast to start the day full of healthy energy!   Participating Blogs:
